Fed: Bounty hunters searching for nursing home beds
Public hospitals and families are paying consultants bounties of up to $900 to get
elderly patients out of hospital beds and into nursing homes.
Three major Melbourne public hospitals have confirmed the use of so-called bounty hunters
to help them clear acute care beds by finding vacant nursing home beds for aged patients.
Federal Aged Care Minister BRONWYN BISHOP has called the practice disgraceful while
Labor says it is clear evidence the federal government's aged care system is in crisis.
The Australian newspaper says private consultants are being paid fees ranging from
$73 an hour to a flat $900 for every patient placed.
