Fed: Medicare report will help negotiations - Lees

Independent Senator MEG LEES says a Senate report on Medicare due today will be useful
for Senators negotiating a deal with the government.

Health Minister TONY ABBOTT will hold negotiations with the four independent Senators
as he makes a final pitch to get the Medicare safety net through the Senate.

Senator LEES -- who was part of the committee that examined the government's proposed
Medicare reforms -- says the exercise has been worthwhile.

She says the process has been very thorough and has given those Senators who will work
with the government some good ideas.
