Vic: Police call for help after sex assault of 8-year-old girl
MELBOURNE, April 18 AAP - An eight-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a man who
approached her as she cycled home from a western Melbourne park, police said today.
Police said the girl had just left Kevein DeLaine (Kevein DeLaine) Reserve in Dallas
about 3:20pm (AEST) on Friday when a man approached her and struck up a conversation.
Detective Acting Sergeant Fiona Bock of the Sexual Crimes Squad said the man had asked
the girl to show him the way to the local high school.
"As they arrived at Broadmeadows Secondary College she has been dragged from her push
bike and taken into a secluded location where she was sexually assaulted," she said.
"At that point she's screamed and broken free of the male and run home."
Sgt Bock said police were concerned by the brazen nature of the daylight attack and
were worried the man could reoffend.
No witnesses to the attack had yet been found and police were appealing to anyone with
information to come forward.
The man is described as being in his late teens or early 20s, with olive or tanned
skin and of a thin build.
At the time of the attack he was wearing knee length white shorts and white runners
with black stripes.
