Vic: Using local goods, services boosts Vic economy
A Victorian government move to give more contracts to local rather than overseas companieshas identified $82 million worth of goods and services that could boost the state's economy.
The government last year introduced the Victorian Industry Participation Policy, whichmakes local content and local jobs key criteria for awarding government contracts.
It applies to every state government contract worth more than $3 million in metropolitanareas and $1 million in regional areas.
State and Regional Development Minister JOHN BRUMBY says an analysis of contracts awardedbetween April and December last year identified the millions of dollars worth of servicesthat could be sourced in Victoria.
He says this translates to up to 2,000 Victorian jobs.
